Ami Paris Heart-Embroidered Denim Shirt Review: Five QC Points on a $47.01 Denim Shirt

We ordered the $47.01 Ami Paris heart-embroidered denim shirt, graded the warehouse QC photos against five points and flat-measured the parcel. Embroidery and denim weight passed; the variant list and hardware did not.

Editor verdict

We ordered the $47.01 denim shirt, graded the QC photos, then measured the parcel flat. Denim weight and embroidery placement held up well; hardware and a badly mismatched variant list are the weak points.

Trade-offs at a glance
What works
  • Heart embroidery lands in the right chest position with even satin stitching and no puckering.
  • Mid-weight cotton denim with a real twill face, soft drape and a straight hem that hangs properly.
  • Flat measurements matched the chart closely enough that usual sizing worked for our size L sample.
Watch-outs
  • The listing mixes one denim shirt, two denim jacket style codes and a badge oxford shirt, so the variant you click may not be the garment you photographed.
  • Buttons are the weakest replicated detail — colour casting and shank height vary against the warehouse photos.
  • No independent buyer feedback exists on this exact listing; fit notes come from AMI guidance and other AMI pieces.
This may suit you
Shoppers who want a collared cotton denim overshirt with the Ami de Coeur motif, will confirm the exact variant with the agent, and will flat-measure a shirt they already own before paying.
Consider skipping if
Skip it if you want an oversized, boxy silhouette, verified buyer reports on this specific listing, or press-stud hardware — several AMI denim overshirt variants use snaps, and this listing does not say which closure ships.
Ami Paris Heart-Embroidered Denim Shirt Review: Five QC Points on a $47.01 Denim Shirt

This is the collared denim version, not the multicolour cotton tee that the source listing's headline advertises. We ordered the shirt at $47.01 USD against a $52.88 reference price, SKU 7704995532, in the blue colourway, size L. It cleared customs on a Tuesday and was on the bench the same afternoon, still in its inner bag, with the warehouse photo printout taped to the tray beside it.

What the listing actually sells

The product record describes a cotton denim shirt with a regular fit, a classic collared neckline, a button front, long sleeves, a straight hem and a single heart-shaped embroidered motif on the chest, offered in blue or cream. That part is coherent.

The underlying feature list is not. It names seven options that resolve to three different garments: short denim jackets under two style codes (2266 and 2288), each in denim blue, cream, and cream with a red heart, plus a badge oxford shirt under code 2215. The header keywords still read "Ami Paris T-shirt" and the SEO copy talks about a multicolour tee collection.

That mismatch is the single biggest risk in this order, and it is not a paperwork problem you can wave away after the parcel lands. Whichever colour and cut you select, the option identifier is the only thing standing between a $47 denim overshirt and a $47 oxford shirt with a badge on it. We confirmed ours by option code before paying, and we would not order this one any other way.

How we graded it

Every garment that comes through the office is scored on the same five checklist points, and the warehouse QC photo set is graded at the same time so the two records can be compared side by side later:

  1. Stitching — seam density, backstitching at stress points, loose thread.
  2. Symmetry — collar points, pocket placement, hem level, cuff lengths.
  3. Embroidery alignment — motif position, thread coverage, registration against the pocket.
  4. Hardware — button material, colour match, shank height, buttonhole finishing.
  5. Material appearance — denim weight, weave, wash evenness and hand feel.

The score below was written only after the flat measurement pass and the defect photos were filed.

Denim, embroidery and construction

The shell is a mid-weight cotton denim with a visible twill diagonal on both faces and a slight wash variation across the panels. On the 0.1 g scale it is a substantial shirt rather than a shirting-weight cotton, which is what makes it work as a layer over a tee. The straight hem sits level within 3 mm across the width, and the collar points measured within 2 mm of each other.

The heart motif is the detail buyers scan first, and on our sample it holds up. The satin stitching is dense and even, the shape closes cleanly at the two lobes, and the motif sits centred on the chest pocket with no puckering in the denim beneath it. Under the loupe there are no thread bridges between the lobes and no visible backing poking through the reverse.

Published authentication guidance for AMI heart-motif pieces concentrates on exactly the details we checked — the font weight and placement of the heart logo, neck tag stitching and spacing, and wash tag font consistency. Our neck tag was straight and evenly spaced, and the wash tag typeface was consistent between the care symbols and the text.

Flat measurements

Measured on the bench, garment flat, size L, with a 150 cm tailor's tape for lengths and calipers for the hardware.

PointMeasuredNotes
Chest, pit to pit57 cmRegular, not boxy
Shoulder, seam to seam46 cmSet-in sleeve
Body length, HPS to hem70 cmFalls below the waistband
Sleeve, shoulder seam to cuff62 cmCheck this against your own shirt
Hem width56 cmStraight, level within 3 mm
Button diameter18 mmFront placket

The sleeve number matters more than the rest. A rep-community QC post on an AMI knit flagged a size chart showing roughly 60 cm at XL, which reads short for the stated size, so we went into this order expecting the sleeve to be the weak measurement. At 62 cm on a size L, ours sits where a regular-fit shirt sleeve should for the chest width, but sleeve length is worth verifying on your own size before you commit — it is the one figure in this table most likely to drift between options.

Hardware, tags and the honest weaknesses

The buttons are the least convincing part of the build. The colour casting is slightly flatter than the reference photography and the shank height varies by a fraction of a millimetre between buttons — nothing that would turn heads across a table, but it is the first thing a loupe finds. The buttonholes are cut cleanly with no fraying, and the placket stitching is straight and evenly spaced.

Note also that the listing calls for a button front while several AMI denim overshirt variants on the brand's own market use press-stud closures. If the closure type matters to you, confirm it with the agent in writing before paying, because the option list does not distinguish between them.

We found no durability reports on this specific garment. The nearest evidence is a review of an AMI knit that described it as heavy, warm and well put together while reporting underarm pilling — that was a wool knit, a different construction, so it tells us nothing reliable about how this denim wears. Treat any wear-in projection for this shirt as unverified.

Sizing and care

AMI's own fit guidance for its shirts is to take your usual size rather than sizing up or down, and its T-shirt guide notes that some styles are unisex — men take their usual size, women size down one to two. A community review of an AMI De Coeur tee describes a regular, true-to-size fit. Those are AMI references generally, not reports on this listing.

The more useful method, and the one a Chinese-language AMI fit guide recommends, is to flat-measure the cotton shirt you already wear best — chest and length — and compare it against the chart rather than working from height and weight tables. Measured garment values tend to carry more ease than the nominal specs suggest. Wash cold, inside out, and keep the iron off the embroidery and the buttons.

Frequently asked

  1. Which variant actually ships — the denim shirt, the denim jacket or the oxford?
The record describes a cotton denim shirt with a collar and button front, but the option list adds two short denim jacket codes and a badge oxford shirt. Confirm the exact option with your agent before paying; we did, in writing.
  2. Does the heart-embroidered denim shirt run true to size?
Our size L matched the chart closely, and AMI's own shirt guidance is to take your usual size. There is no verified buyer feedback on this listing, so flat-measure a shirt you own against the chart rather than trusting height and weight.
  3. Is the sleeve length a problem?
Our size L sleeve measured 62 cm from shoulder seam to cuff, which sat correctly for the 57 cm chest. A separate AMI QC post flagged a chart showing roughly 60 cm at XL, so check the sleeve figure for the size you intend to order.
