BAPE Black Print Backpack Review: A Loud Print Bag We Styled for Teen Everyday Carry

We ordered the $12.39 BAPE print backpack through the Litbuy agent and ran it through our five-point QC checklist and flat measurement. A loud, soft oxford-cloth carry whose compartment layout still needs seller confirmation.

Editor verdict

A loud print bag at $12.39 that survived our stitching, symmetry and print checks and measured to a light, packable shape. The soft oxford-cloth body is no load hauler, and the compartment layout still needs seller confirmation.

Trade-offs at a glance
What works
  • Oxford cloth shell with a polyester lining and a zip top, as the listing states.
  • Interior zip pocket plus an exterior patch pocket keep small items separated.
  • 336 g empty and soft enough to fold down in a school bag.
Watch-outs
  • BAPE-wide Trustpilot reviews split between praise and 1-star complaints, not specific to this bag.
  • One buyer reported a faint unpacking odour on a BAPE garment, not this backpack.
  • Listing contradicts itself: no interlayer listed, yet a compartment count of 2.
This may suit you
A teenager or young buyer who wants the print to do the talking and treats this as a $12.39 silhouette-and-graphic purchase rather than a verified performance bag. Keep the rest of the outfit plain and loose.

BAPE Black Print Backpack Review: A Loud Print Bag We Styled for Teen Everyday Carry

We ordered SKU 7705013314, the BAPE black bag in modern everyday style, through the Litbuy agent at $12.39 against a listed original price of $14.45. The parcel was opened on the day it cleared customs and filed on our Rotterdam bench under its order number, with the warehouse QC photo printout taped beside the tray. This review covers the black colorway only; the catalog also lists red, purple and blue, and the red version carries a different front graphic — a shark face.

The angle we chose for this one is styling rather than load testing. That is what the listing itself promises: a print-front bag built for daily outfit matching and aimed at teenagers. So we graded the print, the surface, and how the bag behaves when it is the loudest object on a person.

What arrived on the bench

The shell is oxford cloth with a polyester lining, as the listing states. The body is soft and unstructured — it collapses flat when empty and does not hold a shape on its own. Closure is a single zip top. Inside there is a zip pocket described as a secret pocket in the catalog, and outside there is a patch pocket set into the front panel. The season is listed as spring 2026. Nothing in the parcel suggested a stiffener, frame or padded base.

Our flat readings, taken with a tailor's tape and digital calipers on the day of unpacking:

Those figures describe the bag we received in the black colorway. The catalog gives no dimensions or weight at all, so treat our numbers as one unit, not as a spec sheet — and if a number matters to you, have the shopping agent confirm it against the actual listing before you pay.

Five-point checklist results

Stitching — 4 / 5

Seams along the zip tape and the strap anchors were even, with no skipped runs on either strap junction. The bar tacks at the strap tops sat square. We found one short length of loose thread inside the main compartment, which we trimmed; it did not pull a seam.

Symmetry — 4 / 5

Laid flat and folded down the centre line, the two halves matched to within a few millimetres at the base and the top corners. The exterior patch pocket sits slightly off the vertical centre, by roughly the width of the caliper jaw, which is normal at this price and invisible when the bag is worn.

Print alignment — 4 / 5

Under the UV torch the front motif showed no lifting at the edges and no overspray into the surrounding cloth. The print sits straight relative to the panel edges, though it is placed a little high on the front, which is why it reads so large in photographs at chest height.

Hardware — 3.5 / 5

The slider is metal and ran cleanly through ten open-and-close cycles. The pull is moulded plastic, light and hollow-feeling. That is the weakest element on the bag and the part most likely to be replaced first.

Material appearance — 4 / 5

The oxford weave is tight and matte, with no shiny patches or weave pulls across the panels. The black is even between the front panel and the sides — we checked that against our colour card, since uneven dye lots are the usual flaw on print bags ordered in volume.

The loud-print problem

A backpack with a full front graphic needs the rest of the outfit to step back. A styling guide for BAPE shark-face backpacks makes the point directly, and we tested the advice against the bag on the bench:

Pair it with a plain, loose T-shirt or sweatshirt in a solid colour and wide cargo pants. Remember to combine busy and plain: since the bag is already full-print camo with a shark face, keep the upper body as simple as possible.

That guidance holds for this black colorway. The bag is at its most useful when it is the only patterned thing a person is wearing. It also means the black version is the forgiving choice of the four listed colors — black sits against grey, navy, white and washed denim without argument, while the red shark-face version dictates the outfit rather than joining it.

Where the listing contradicts itself

Two fields in the catalog disagree. One says there is no interlayer; another gives an interlayer count of 2, and the description separately mentions two compartments. In the bag we received, we counted one main compartment, the interior zip pocket and the exterior patch pocket — no padded divider or laptop sleeve. We are flagging the conflict rather than resolving it, because a buyer who needs a real two-compartment layout should not rely on the listing copy alone. Ask the agent for a photograph of the open bag and a measurement of each compartment before ordering.

What independent evidence exists

There is none for this specific bag. What we could find is brand-level. Trustpilot reviews of BAPE are split: the same page carries buyers calling the products excellent quality and worth the price, and 1-star complaints. Separately, one BAPE buyer reported that a recently purchased garment's material had changed and that it gave off a faint smell when unpacked at home. Both records concern the brand, not this backpack, and we are keeping them at that level rather than stretching them into a verdict on the oxford cloth in our tray. Our own bag was odourless out of the inner bag and stayed that way after two days on the bench.

If you want durability data, water resistance figures or a capacity comparison, this listing will not give them to you, and neither will any third-party record we could locate. What it does give you is a $12.39 print bag that passed four of five checklist points cleanly, weighs 336 g empty, and asks only that the rest of the outfit stay quiet.

Frequently asked

  1. Does this backpack have independent buyer reviews?
No. The only records we could locate are BAPE-wide: a split Trustpilot page and one report of an unpacking odour on a garment. Neither covers this backpack, so treat our hands-on checklist and flat measurements as the available product-level evidence.
  2. What did your flat measurements find?
Our black unit measured 30 cm tall, 23.5 cm wide and 12 cm deep, with a 46 cm strap drop and 336 g empty on the scale. The listing publishes no dimensions, so verify against the seller before ordering.
  3. Do the compartment specs agree with the bag?
No. The listing says there is no interlayer while also giving a compartment count of 2. In our bag we counted one main compartment, an interior zip pocket and an exterior patch pocket. Ask the agent for a photograph of the open bag before buying.
