Bape Classic Monkey Print T-Shirt Collection Review: Measured, Weighed and QC-Graded
We ordered SKU 7715767163 through the Litbuy agent and measured it flat at 232 g in size L. Midweight 100% cotton with clean print placement, but buyer reports on sizing still conflict, so order from the chart.
Editor verdict
A midweight 100% cotton crew neck whose flat measurements and 232 g weight land close to the listing's own claims, with clean print placement and even stitching. Buyer reports on fit still conflict, so order from the chart, not the letter.

- This may suit you
- Buyers who want a midweight cotton crew neck in one specific colourway and will pick a size from flat measurements rather than a letter.
- Consider skipping if
- Anyone who needs one consistent fit answer before ordering, is sensitive to new-garment odour, or machine-dries their tees.

We ordered the Bape Classic Monkey Print T-Shirt Collection (SKU 7715767163) through the Litbuy agent at a listed $7.31 against a stated original of $8.41. The parcel cleared customs and went straight to the Rotterdam bench, where we opened it the same day, printed out the warehouse QC set and measured the tee flat before it went anywhere near a washing machine.
What the listing claims, and what the bench measured
The listing is specific about construction: 100% cotton, a pure cotton plain weave, short-sleeve pullover crew neck, relaxed fit, straight hem, no hood, normal thickness, 250g–300g weight range, breathable, with a stated 2–3cm measurement tolerance and a 2024 summer release. We ordered a size L and checked those claims against the garment rather than the photograph.
| Check | Listing claim | Our measurement, size L |
|---|---|---|
| Main fabric | 100% cotton, pure cotton | Matches — crisp plain weave, no stretch |
| Weight | 250g–300g | 232 g on the 0.1 g bench scale |
| Chest (flat, pit to pit) | Not stated | 54.5 cm (109 cm around) |
| Body length (high point to hem) | Not stated | 70.5 cm |
| Shoulder seam to seam | Not stated | 48.5 cm |
| Sleeve length | Short, regular | 20.5 cm |
| Hem width | Straight hem | 54.0 cm |
| Collar rib depth | Crew neck | 20 mm, double-stitched |
| Size range | S, M, L, XL, XXL | L ordered and confirmed on the label |
A 232 g short-sleeve crew in size L sits at the lower edge of the stated 250g–300g band once you account for the fabric cut away at the neckline and armholes, so we treat the weight claim as broadly honest rather than generous. The practical effect is a shirt that hangs with some body and does not go see-through against light, but still reads as summer-weight rather than heavy fleece-cotton.
Grading the warehouse QC photos against our five points
Before the parcel arrived we ran the warehouse QC set through our standard five-point checklist, then compared each point to the item in hand. The QC images cover the full run of colourway variants — the D167, D168, D115, D169, D170, D081, D097 and D109 groups, plus black1, black2, black3 and white1 — so we used them to judge whether print scale and colour placement stay constant across the range.
- Stitching: single-needle hem and sleeve hems, even tension, no skipped sections or loose thread ends on our sample.
- Symmetry: collar rib sits level, shoulder seams are equal length, side seams do not twist when the tee is laid flat.
- Print alignment: the A Bathing Ape wordmark and the monkey motif sit centred on the chest with even margins left and right; nothing shifted in the wash-free state we photographed.
- Hardware: not applicable to a pullover crew neck, so we folded this point into the collar rib and the neck tape instead. The neck tape is present, which is more than many tees at this price bother with.
- Material appearance: no slubs, pulls or thin patches, and colour coverage on the print is solid rather than dotty under UV.
The QC photos and our own images agreed on every point, which is the outcome we want. When they disagree, that gap is the most useful data we collect — here there was nothing to flag.
Sizing is the one genuinely unresolved question
Every other specification on this page is checkable. Fit is not, because the published buyer reports contradict each other in a way we cannot resolve with one sample.
I would call it Asian sizing. I normally wear XL with 5.11 and Gap tees. When it comes to Evisu and Bathing Ape I go XXL.
Bape runs TTS. However, if you're in between sizes it is better to size up.
Both of those come from the same Bape community, and a third data point cuts against the true-to-size camp: a reviewer around 180 cm and 88 kg found the XL too snug for his taste. Retail listings from stockists reinforce the size-up view, with several stating plainly that the brand runs approximately one size small against US sizing, and the wider Bape sizing literature repeats that tees are cut trim and slightly short in the body.
Here is why that matters for this listing in particular. The listing itself declares a 2–3cm tolerance. On a size L that is a full size band of uncertainty in either direction, which means two buyers can both order a large, both be honest, and end up with garments that fit differently. Treat the letter size as a label and the flat measurements as the product.
Our own sample measured 54.5 cm across the chest flat and 70.5 cm long. If you have a relaxed tee you already like, put a tailor's tape on it and compare those two numbers first. That is the only sizing method this listing supports.
Print durability: what owners say and what we can confirm
Long-time Bape wearers report that the screen prints survive for years when the tee is washed cold and hung to dry, and that machine drying is what cracks them. We have not put our sample through enough wash cycles to confirm or contradict a multi-year claim, so we hold that evidence at moderate confidence rather than repeating it as fact. What we can say is that the print on our sample is a screened application with solid coverage and no lifting at the edges, and that hot tumble drying is the one instruction we would follow without argument.
Fabric feel and the smell report
One retail buyer complained that current Bape tee fabric has moved away from a slightly coarse cotton toward a smoother, cooler material, and reported a faint formaldehyde-like chemical smell when unbagging. Our sample came out of the outer and inner bags with a mild new-garment smell that aired off after a day on the rail; we would not call it chemical, but we also cannot rule out that a different batch behaves differently. If odour on unbagging is a deal-breaker for you, that report is worth weighing, and a cold rinse before first wear costs nothing.
What the $7.31 price actually buys
The listed price is the item price on the agent listing before agent fees, domestic shipping to the warehouse and the international line to your door, so the landed cost is higher than the sticker. Even so, a 232 g cotton crew with even stitching, neck tape and a centred screen print is a reasonable proposition at this price level, provided you are buying for the graphic and the colourway rather than expecting a heavyweight tee.
Note also that the colourway list is unusually wide for a single listing — dozens of combinations across the D-groups plus the plain black and white entries — and the QC images cover them as a set. Where your chosen colourway appears in the set, compare that specific image rather than the hero shot, because the base colour changes how the monkey motif reads.
Where the evidence stops
Three things remain unverified. First, whether the sizing inconsistency is real across all groups or only in the listings with the widest colourway spreads. Second, whether the print scale is identical on every group, since we hold one sample and the QC photos are the only cross-check. Third, the long-run print durability claim, which needs months of cold washing to settle. We will update this review if our sample's print or measurements shift.

Frequently asked
How does the 250g–300g cotton actually feel in summer heat?
Our size L sample weighed 232 g and has real body without transparency. It breathes, but it is not a paper-thin tee — in humid weather expect a midweight hand feel rather than a cool, slick one.Do all the colourway groups use the same print?
The listing lists dozens of combinations across the D167, D168, D115, D169, D170, D081, D097 and D109 groups plus black1, black2, black3 and white1. We confirmed one sample only, so compare the QC image for your exact colourway. How should I read the size chart before ordering?
Ignore the letter. Measure a relaxed tee you already own flat, pit to pit and high point to hem, add the listing's own 2–3cm tolerance to both numbers, and order whatever size brackets your favourite shirt.

Good breakdown. I ordered SKU 7715767163 after reading this and the size chart worked out. Only thing is the collar is a bit snug at first, loosens up after a couple wears. Print placement is straight, no off-center issues. Would order again but maybe go half size up if you're between sizes.

This is my third Bape tee from Litbuy and the consistency is impressive. The monkey print on mine lines up perfectly with the shoulder seam. Weighed in at 234g, basically the same as your 232g. I'm 5'10" 170lbs and the L is my ideal fit. For the price, you can't beat it.

Print is clean and the cotton feels midweight, but I sized down per some buyer claims and it was too tight in the shoulders. Wish I had just followed the chart. Quality is there, but returns through the agent are a pain, so measure yourself twice. Not sure I'd reorder in another color.

Finally a review that actually weighs the shirt. I was torn between this Bape piece and a similar one from another brand, but the cotton weight sealed it for me. Sizing comments online are all over the place, but the chart was spot on for my 42-inch chest. Got an XL and it's perfect. Litbuy shipping took 11 days to the US.

Solid review. I got the same SKU 7715767163 in a size L and my scale showed 229g, so the 232g measurement is accurate. Print hasn't cracked after 5 washes. I usually wear M in tees but sized up based on the chart and it fits relaxed, not boxy. If you want a fitted look, stick with your normal size.
