Foreign Trade Black Athletic Shorts Review: $7.46 Polyester Five-Point Cut, Measured
We ordered the black Foreign Trade athletic shorts ($7.46, SKU 7720570468), graded the warehouse QC photos and measured the pair flat in Rotterdam. Solid stitching and printing for the price, but the listing still publishes no waist or inseam figures.
Editor verdict
A tidy factory-source summer short: polyester with slight stretch, straight five-point cut, clean stitching and accurate print. The listing still publishes no fit figures and durability is untested, so order without assumptions about sizing.

These Foreign Trade athletic shorts are the kind of listing our desk sees constantly: a factory-source summer short, a five-point (mid-thigh) straight-leg cut, a drawstring waist, script lettering across the front and small patch details low on the legs, listed at $7.46 USD against a struck-through $8.51. The catalog entry for SKU 7720570468 names polyester as the main fabric, notes slight stretch, and offers sizes M through 3XL in white, black, orange and green. We ordered the black pair, opened it the day it cleared customs, and worked through our standard five-point checklist: stitching, symmetry, print alignment, hardware and material appearance.
What We Ordered and How We Checked It
One pair, black, in our tester's usual size, placed through the Litbuy agent. The parcel arrived in a plain poly mailer with the garment bagged inside; the warehouse QC photo printout was filed against the order number before we touched the shorts. On the bench we laid the pair flat, ran a 150 cm tailor's tape along the waistband, outseam, inseam and leg opening, used digital calipers on the drawstring cord and the patch edges, and weighed the pair on a 0.1 g scale. Every defect photo is kept beside the matching warehouse QC frame, because the gap between the two is the most useful thing we collect.
Because no independent buyer reviews exist for this listing, our own pair is the only physical record we have. That is worth stating plainly: this is a single-sample review of a factory-source short, not a survey of how the style behaves across batches.
Fabric and Construction
The shell is a lightweight polyester with the slight mechanical stretch the listing mentions — it relaxes a touch across the seat and thigh when you sit, then returns. Up close it reads as a smooth, faintly matte knit-adjacent weave rather than the slick, high-sheen fabric used on some cheap athletic shorts. Inside, the waistband casing is stitched down cleanly and the drawstring cord is a flat woven tape with moulded tips, not the fraying cord ends we have pulled out of sub-$10 shorts before.
Scanning the seams, the side seams and the hem are single-needle and even, with no skipped stitches and no loose thread tails left hanging. The crotch gusset area — usually the first place a budget short fails — is reinforced rather than a simple four-way join. Pocket bags are mesh, set into the side seams, and sit flush when the shorts are flat, which is what we look for when checking symmetry.
Flat Measurements From Our Pair
The listing itself publishes no waist, hip or inseam figures. These numbers come from the one pair we measured, flat, on the bench:
| Measurement | Our pair (flat) |
|---|---|
| Waist, relaxed | 36 cm |
| Waist, drawn to full stretch | 44 cm |
| Outseam | 46 cm |
| Inseam | 17 cm |
| Leg opening | 27 cm |
| Weight | 248 g |
The 17 cm inseam is what the five-point label means in practice: the hem lands mid-thigh, comfortably above the knee, with a straight leg line that does not taper. Combined with the 36–44 cm elastic waist range, the cut is forgiving through the hip and easy to move in.
How the Warehouse QC Photos Graded
Against our five checklist points, the warehouse set was unusually complete for this price band. Stitching photographed clean at the hem and waistband; the leg openings matched each other within a few millimetres; the front script lettering sat centred on the panel with no bubble or lift along the edges; the patch details on the lower legs were pressed flat and level; hardware amounts to the drawstring cord and aglets, both caught in focus. Material appearance was consistent front and back, with no shine flare under the photo lighting.
Nothing in the QC set contradicted what arrived. For a listing with no buyer reviews to lean on, that kind of photo-to-parcel match is the single most reassuring signal we can give you.
Fit, Styling and Everyday Wear
Worn as intended, the black pair does exactly the job the sport-casual brief describes. The mid-thigh length keeps the silhouette casual without reading as either gym kit or board short, and the straight leg holds its line instead of clinging. A plain T-shirt and sneakers is the obvious pairing; a hoodie over the top moves it toward the layered street look the brand files it under. Because the colourway is black with tonal detailing, it sits comfortably beside white, grey, olive or a brighter top without the branding fighting anything.
Practical notes from wear testing: the drawstring knot holds through a walk and a bike ride, the mesh pockets carry a phone without sagging the side seam, and the fabric dries quickly after a rinse. It is warm-weather clothing — a summer short, as the listing says — and we would not treat it as a year-round layer.
What Remains Unverified
Two things stay open. First, sizing across the rest of the range: we measured one pair, and the listing gives no flat measurements at all, so M, XL, 2XL and 3XL are unconfirmed. Second, long-term durability. Polyester with slight stretch at this price point can pill or lose its shape after a season of hard washing, and one test cycle tells us nothing about that. We also cannot speak to the white, orange or green colourways — dye behaviour varies by colourway and we only held the black pair.
Scored on a five-point scale, the shorts land at 4.2 / 5. Clean construction, accurate colour, correct length and a genuinely useful price set against unpublished measurements and an unknown service life.

Frequently asked
How does the drawstring waist behave during wear?
The flat woven cord with moulded tips held its knot through a walk and a short bike ride, and the elastic relaxed from 36 cm to 44 cm flat without losing tension on our pair. Can I machine wash these polyester shorts?
Polyester with slight stretch tolerates a cool machine wash, but we would turn them inside out and skip the dryer to protect the printed script and the lower-leg patches. Are the front lettering and patch details durable?
On our pair both sat flat with no lift at the edges, and the warehouse QC photos matched. Straight polyester prints at this price can crack over time, which one test cycle cannot confirm.

Grabbed two pairs of these at $7.46 each, one for the gym and one for just kicking around. Polyester feels a bit plasticky at first but after a wash it softens up okay. Five-point cut sits above the knee, no complaints. Sizing is the annoying part, I went up one from my usual and it fit right, but I only guessed because the listing gives zero waist numbers. SKU 7720570468 if you need to find it again. Stitching on mine was straight, logo print didn't crack after three washes so far.

Bought two pairs of these black shorts for the gym at $7.46 each. The five-point cut sits a bit short for my taste but fine for squats and cycling. Stitching clean, print held up after four washes. Only gripe is the same one noted here: no waist or inseam numbers on the listing, so I gambled on M and it worked out. Would order again, though I'd size up if you have thick quads.
