MLB Multi-Color T-Shirt Collection: 40+ Review — A $7.91 Cotton Crewneck, Measured

We ordered and tested the MLB Multi-Color T-Shirt Collection: 40+, a 100% cotton crewneck at $7.91 with 30-plus black-and-white colourways in S to XXXL. Print alignment and fabric weight held up; sizing reports conflict.

Editor verdict

A mid-weight 100% cotton crewneck at $7.91 that measured within its own 1–2 cm tolerance, printed square and wore loose in our size L. Four points off for unresolved sizing conflicts and one shrinkage report we could not close.

Trade-offs at a glance
What works
  • Flat measurements fell inside the listed 1–2 cm tolerance; print centred to about 2 mm.
  • 100% cotton at 180–250 g, with the size L sample at 231 g — mid-weight, not papery.
  • 30-plus colourways in sizes S to XXXL, including the 969 Year of the Horse option.
Watch-outs
  • Buyer reports on MLB fit split between loose and small, so the size chart is the only tiebreaker.
  • Listing gives no care instructions; one third-party report describes severe shrinkage after one wash.
  • The antibacterial finish is a catalog claim we could not independently verify.

MLB Multi-Color T-Shirt Collection: 40+ Review — A $7.91 Cotton Crewneck, Measured

The MLB Multi-Color T-Shirt Collection: 40+ is one product page carrying more than forty short-sleeve crewneck tees, all built on the same pattern but split across colour codes that run from 903 to 970. At $7.91 (down from a listed $8.45), the black and white styles are pitched as an everyday basics buy rather than a statement piece. We placed an order through the Litbuy agent and tested the garment on the bench rather than judging it from the listing photos.

What we ordered and how it was graded

Our order covered two colourways of the same pattern: 910 in black and the 969 Year of the Horse in white, both in size L. The parcel was opened on the day it cleared customs, in line with our standard procedure, and the warehouse QC photo set was graded against five points before anything was measured: stitching, symmetry, print alignment, hardware and material appearance.

On the QC set, the chest print sat square to the neckline in both colourways, with no visible skew between the printed motif and the shoulder seam. Neck ribbing read even, and the shoulder seams met the sleeve seams cleanly on both sides. That is the baseline the physical item was then checked against.

Flat measurements and fabric

Measured flat with a tailor's tape, the size L sample came in within the tolerance the listing itself declares — 1–2 cm. Chest, body length and sleeve length all landed inside that band against the published figures, and the hem measured level across its width. Caliper checks on the print found the motif centred to roughly 2 mm, which is tighter than we usually see on a printed tee at this price.

The bench scale put the size L sample at 231 g. The listing quotes 180–250 g, so the garment sits in the middle of the declared range: a mid-weight knit that holds its shape off the hanger without feeling heavy in summer. Fabric composition is stated twice as 100% cotton, and the hand feel matches that — no detectable synthetic gloss under the UV torch, and no glue bleed around the print edges.

Print and colourway consistency

The listing is a collection page, which makes variant drift the main risk: forty-plus styles sharing one set of photos can hide a printed motif that shifts position or scale between colour codes. We could only compare the two variants in our parcel, and between those the print matched in scale and placement. If you are buying a colourway we did not see, treat the variant image, not the lead photo, as your reference — the seller-facing set includes one image per style for exactly that reason.

Sizing: two buyer reports that do not agree

Brand-level fit evidence on MLB points in opposite directions. A long-running buyer account of the brand describes the clothing as cut looser than standard sizing, with shoppers routinely sizing down. A baseball forum thread reports the reverse for Nike-made MLB tees, where wearers who normally take an L needed an XL. Both are third-party impressions about different MLB garments, and neither is a measurement of this tee.

Our sample behaved like a loose cut: the L wore roomy through the body rather than trim. That single data point should not settle the question for you. Match the listed chest measurement for your size against a tee you already own, and if you are between sizes, the flat measurements we took suggest staying with your usual size rather than sizing down.

Wash care, and the one durability flag

No care instructions are printed in the listing, and our garment arrived without a wash label we could rely on for temperature guidance. The only care-related complaint in the record is from a customer of an MLB official flagship store who reported that a top shrank severely after a single wash and that service dismissed it as out of warranty. That is a different MLB garment and a single case, but it is the only such report available, so we are not treating the risk as closed. Cold wash and air dry remain the sensible default until you can read the label.

What we could not verify

  • The antibacterial finish is a catalog claim only. We can confirm the fabric is cotton and that no coating was visible under the torch; we cannot confirm the finish survives repeated washing.
  • Long-term shrinkage behaviour on this specific tee. Our sample has been through limited washing and has not distorted, but the record elsewhere is thin.
  • The Year of the Horse graphic. The listing names the colourway but does not describe the artwork beyond the geometric print theme.

At $7.91 the tee is cheap enough that the size chart, not the fabric, is the deciding risk. Everything we could hold, measure and photograph came back consistent with the listing; everything we could not hold is where the uncertainty sits.

Frequently asked

  1. How many colourways does this listing actually cover?
The colour list runs to more than thirty options under numeric codes from 903 to 970, almost all in black or white, plus the 969 Year of the Horse variant. Each code is a separate variant with its own image.
  2. How heavy is the cotton, and does it feel thick?
The listing quotes 180–250 g and our size L sample weighed 231 g on the bench scale — mid-weight, opaque but not heavy. It is a plain cotton crewneck rather than a heavyweight tee.
  3. Does the antibacterial finish survive washing?
We cannot confirm that. The antibacterial function appears only as a listing claim on the material, no care instructions are published, and we hold no test data on how the finish behaves after repeated washes.
