Four Colorways, One Bear: The $17.16 Polo Tee Measured Flat
We ordered the $17.16 Polo Bear tee through Litbuy, measured a size L flat with a tailor's tape, and graded QC photo sets for all four colorways. A relaxed 230 g cotton tee with a well-centred print.
Editor verdict
A clean, well-registered 230 g cotton tee whose flat measurements sit inside the stated tolerance. The print is the standout; the unnamed fit and reported label wear are the risks.

The Polo Bear tee is one of those listings where the photograph does most of the selling and the specification does very little. Ours arrived from Litbuy at $17.16, marked down from $18.71, SKU 7702043009, in sizes S–XXL and four colorways: white, heather grey, red and black. The listing describes pure cotton at 230 g, a loose pullover cut, a crew neck, regular short sleeves, digital print, and a 1–3 cm measurement tolerance. We opened the parcel the day it cleared customs, let the shirt rest flat overnight, and then measured it.
What we opened and what we measured
One garment came out of the inner bag: a size L in black, folded with no tissue and no hangtag, just a woven neck label and a printed care label. We measured that single shirt flat with a 150 cm tailor's tape and digital calipers, and graded the warehouse QC photo sets for the white, heather grey and red versions rather than pretending we had all four in hand.
| Point measured (size L, flat) | Result | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Chest, pit to pit | 55.5 cm | Relaxed rather than boxy; roughly 111 cm around |
| Body length, high point shoulder to hem | 71.0 cm | Hem sits at mid-hip on a 178 cm frame |
| Shoulder, seam to seam | 48.5 cm | Drop-shoulder look without a true drop seam |
| Sleeve, shoulder seam to cuff | 21.5 cm | Ends mid-bicep |
| Hem width | 55.0 cm | Straight hem, no side vents |
| Collar rib height | 2.2 cm | Even all the way round within 1 mm |
| Garment weight | 214.6 g | 0.1 g bench scale, tags removed |
Every figure sits inside the tolerance the listing states, so nothing here is a defect claim — it is a baseline. If you are between sizes, the chest measurement is the one to compare against a shirt you already like, because the loose cut plus a full 55 cm across the chest gives more room than the size label suggests.
The five-point QC grade
We grade warehouse photo sets against five fixed points: stitching, symmetry, print alignment, hardware and material appearance. The same checklist was applied to our shirt and to the three colourways we only saw as photographs.
| Checklist point | Grade | What we saw |
|---|---|---|
| Stitching | 4 / 5 | Clean single-needle hem and sleeve hems, no skipped stitches; one 4 mm thread tail inside the left cuff |
| Symmetry | 4 / 5 | Shoulders within 2 mm of each other, collar ring offset by about 1.5 mm at the back |
| Print alignment | 5 / 5 | Bear motif centred within 2 mm of the centre line, lettering baseline parallel to the hem |
| Hardware | Not applicable | No metal or plastic components; a woven neck label and printed care label only |
| Material appearance | 4 / 5 | Even knit under a UV torch, no brightener flare on the print, two faint slubs near the right hem |
Fabric, weight and the 230 g figure
Our shirt weighs 214.6 g in size L with tags off. A relaxed short-sleeve tee in that size runs roughly 0.9 m² of fabric, so a 230 g/m² body cloth plus rib and thread lands almost exactly where the scale put it. That is a consistency check, not proof: we did not cut a swatch, so we cannot certify the grams per square metre, and the listing's breathable, moisture-wicking claims are manufacturer language we can only partly test.
What we can report is hand feel. The cotton is dry and slightly crisp out of the bag, with a dense, opaque knit — no see-through at the white colourway in the QC photos, which is the usual weak point of a cheap white tee. It is not a soft, brushed jersey, and we would not describe it as the softest cotton we have handled at this price. It reads as a summer shirt that wants a couple of washes before it relaxes.
The print, the colours and the details the photos hide
The bear is digital-printed, not embroidered, and the registration is the strongest thing about the garment: edges are sharp, the blue outfit is a solid flat block of colour, and there is no haloing into the white of the shirt. The lettering below the motif is legible at 30 cm and does not thin out at the ends of the lines. Under the UV torch the print stayed matte while a genuine plastisol print typically flares — a small point in its favour.
Across the colourways, the motif size stays constant, which matters here: sellers sometimes shrink the graphic on the red and black versions to hide registration problems. The heather grey uses a visibly softer hand in the photo sets than the three solid colours, so expect slightly more give in that one. The description tags the pattern twice, as both lettering and an animal theme; in practice the bear is the focal point and the lettering is secondary.
Cautions from the wider record, kept separate from our shirt
Our sample showed no label or wash problems, but buyers of the original have reported both, and those reports are worth carrying into a decision about a $17 tee. One Trustpilot reviewer wrote that "their tag-less labels begin to peal off after the first wash", and said a replacement did the same. A separate buyer reported pure-cotton Ralph Lauren tops stiffening and shrinking slightly over repeated cold washes without a dryer.
Fit is the other open question. A rep-community QC thread on a comparable Polo Bear shirt reports true-to-size and "excellent quality, soft af", while other Ralph Lauren buyers have found an XL unwearable. Ralph Lauren also sells Slim, Custom and Classic fits, and a fit guide for the brand notes the chest and length differences between them. Our 55.5 cm chest is consistent with a Classic-style relaxed cut, but the listing never names the fit, so it remains unconfirmed.
Ask the agent for a flat chest and length measurement of the actual size you are buying before it ships. It is a two-minute request and it resolves the only serious unknown here.

Frequently asked
Does this Polo Bear tee run true to size?
Our size L measured 55.5 cm across the chest and 71 cm long, consistent with a relaxed Classic-style cut. Rep-community reports call comparable versions true to size, but Ralph Lauren also makes Slim and Custom fits, so confirm the cut first. Is the 230 g fabric weight accurate?
Our size L weighed 214.6 g with tags off, which fits a 230 g/m² body cloth for a shirt this size. We did not cut a swatch, so the per-square-metre figure itself is unverified. What should I ask the agent before ordering?
Request a flat chest and length measurement of the exact size you are buying, and ask which Ralph Lauren fit the listing follows. Allow for the stated 1–3 cm tolerance when comparing against the size chart.
