Polo Ralph Lauren Black T-Shirt Review: A $16.57 Loose Cotton Tee, Measured

We ordered the $16.57 Polo Ralph Lauren black tee through Litbuy, graded its 41 warehouse QC photos, then measured it flat. A heavy-for-summer cotton crew neck with clean print edges — and a collar we would not bet on.

Editor verdict

A dense cotton loose-fit crew neck at $16.57 with a clean embroidered pony and a sharp sleeve print. Our size M measured 52 cm across the chest. The collar survived one gentle wash; the wider buyer record on Polo collars keeps this at a solid rather than excellent score.

Trade-offs at a glance
What works

Polo Ralph Lauren Black T-Shirt Review: A $16.57 Loose Cotton Tee, Measured

The black Polo Ralph Lauren tee in this listing is a loose-fit cotton crew neck selling for $16.57 against a stated original of $18.83, in sizes M to XXXL, and one of the longest colour runs we have handled on a single SKU. Our order was placed through the Litbuy agent, the warehouse QC set was graded on the day it landed in the order log, and the parcel was opened and measured in the Rotterdam office the day it cleared customs.

This is the black colourway in the A002 group. The front carries a white embroidered pony player; the right sleeve carries a large white number 3. Everything below is written from the parcel on our bench, not from the listing copy.

How we graded the QC photo set

The warehouse set for this SKU runs to 41 images, which is unusually deep for a T-shirt and covers the flat front, the sleeve print in close-up, the collar rib, the inside neck print and the hem stitch. We scored the set against our five fixed checklist points before the garment arrived, then re-checked each point on the physical item.

Checklist pointWhat the QC photos showedOn the bench

Measured flat, with a tailor's tape and calipers

The listing quotes a 1–2 cm tolerance, so we measured the size M we ordered against a tee from the same drawer. Fabric thickness was taken with digital calipers at four points on the body panel.

MeasurementSize M, measured flat
Chest, pit to pit52 cm
Body length, shoulder to hem70 cm
Shoulder, seam to seam45 cm
Sleeve, shoulder seam to cuff20 cm
Collar rib depth2 cm
Fabric thickness (calipers, 4 points)0.50–0.54 mm
Garment weight, size M245 g

The 245 g garment weight is consistent with the listing's stated 250–300 g/m² band once the panel area is taken into account; we did not run a laboratory gsm test, so treat that figure as the listing's claim and our weight as the check against it. On the body it reads heavier than a standard summer tee — dense enough that the white print sits on top of the fabric rather than sinking into it.

The print and the number

The embroidered pony is the strongest element on the garment. Under the UV torch the white thread is uniformly bright, the fill is dense with no exposed black between stitches, and the outline closes cleanly at the tail and mallet. The sleeve number is a print rather than embroidery, and this is where the long colour run matters: the print sits on the black base without a visible halo, and the edges are sharp under magnification.

Buyer reports on Polo tees split between print and letter edges that stay clean-cut and plain versions that go flimsy after a few washes. Our single garment leans towards the first description, but one wash cycle is not a durability verdict.

The collar, and why we are cautious

The one point we cannot settle from a single parcel is the collar. Buyer threads on Polo Ralph Lauren tees describe collars that roll or pucker after one gentle wash, and separately describe plain tees losing body after two or three wears. Our sample's 2 cm rib came through a cold gentle cycle flat and with the neck opening still round, measured at 19.5 cm across before and after. That is one cycle. We are not upgrading a brand-level complaint into a clean bill of health on the strength of it.

Fit and the colour-run problem

This is a loose cut, not the regular fit that most of the sizing talk online refers to. The chest is generous for a size M and the shoulder sits slightly off the natural line, which is the intended streetwear drape. If you want a fitted tee, this is the wrong listing.

Two practical notes from the evidence and from our order. First, buyers report that lighter-coloured Polo tees fit looser than darker ones within the same label size, which is a real risk across a colour list this long. Second, the listing accepts a 1–2 cm tolerance, so the M you receive may not match our 52 cm chest to the millimetre. Measure a tee you already like and compare the flat numbers above before choosing.

What the $16.57 buys, and what it does not

At this price the garment delivers a dense cotton jersey, a clean embroidered pony, a sharp sleeve print and an even hem. The listing also claims breathable, moisture-wicking and antibacterial functions; those are catalog descriptions and we have no independent confirmation of any of them, so we score the tee on what we could handle. What it does not buy is certainty about the collar after ten washes, or consistency between colourways you cannot see side by side.

Frequently asked

  1. What chest measurement should I expect in size M?
Our size M measured 52 cm pit to pit, 70 cm in body length and 45 cm across the shoulders, flat. The listing allows a 1–2 cm tolerance, so compare these numbers to a tee you already own before ordering.
  2. Is the pony embroidered or printed?
The pony player on the chest is embroidered, with dense white thread and a closed outline at the tail. The large number 3 on the right sleeve is a print, and its edges read sharp under magnification on our sample.
  3. Does the fabric feel heavy for summer?
It is heavier than a standard summer tee. Our size M weighed 245 g and calipers put the fabric at 0.50–0.54 mm, which matches the listing's 250–300 g/m² claim in practice. Expect a dense drape rather than a thin, sheer jersey.
