Versace Black Shorts Review: The Greek-Key Hem, the Medusa Detail and a Size Run That Reaches 5XL
We ordered the Versace black shorts, taped them flat, and checked the Greek-key border and Medusa detail against the warehouse QC photos. A $6.87 polyester five-point cut in M–5XL, with one measurement problem: no flat chart.
Editor verdict
A well-made $6.87 five-point short for warm weather, offered in black or black-gold up to 5XL. Straight, stretch-free, and sold without a flat chart — request waist and hip measurements before ordering.

- This may suit you
- You want a straight-cut polyester five-point short, need a size above XL up to 5XL, or want the black-gold option — and you will message the seller for flat measurements first.
- Consider skipping if
- You need stretch, or a confident fit from the size tag alone. With no flat chart published and Versace sizing running small, a guess is a gamble — and you may not want to wait on measurements.

These Versace black shorts arrived as a straight-leg, five-point short in polyester with no stretch, listed at $6.87 against a $7.59 original price, SKU 7717544993, in black and black-gold. We ordered a pair, opened the tray the day it cleared customs, and put the print under the same light as the warehouse QC photos.
What the bench actually received
The parcel was filed in the usual numbered tray: outer bag, inner bag, the printed warehouse QC set, and the garment itself, which carried no brand hangtag. The pair reads as a warm-weather short — knee-adjacent five-point length, straight leg, an elastic-free waistband construction with a drawcord, and side pockets set into the seam rather than on top of it.
We photographed the tray before and after measurement and kept the QC printout beside the item, which is the step that matters most on a printed short. The all-over white geometric motif is a repeat, and repeats drift. On our pair the pattern ran true across the front panel and stayed level above the hem.
Measurements we took, and why they are not a size chart
We measured one pair flat with a tailor's tape and calipers. That is one data point, not a replacement for a published chart — treat it as a method rather than a promise, and apply it to the size you are considering by asking the seller for the same figures.
| Check | How we took it | What we were looking for |
|---|---|---|
| Waist, flat | Waistband laid flat, front edge to front edge, no pull | A figure that matches the size number on the listing |
| Hip, flat | Measured across the widest point below the pocket mouths | Room for natural movement without a boxy silhouette |
| Five-point length | Inseam from crotch seam to hem, both legs | Legs within a few millimetres of each other |
| Hem width | Calipers across the leg opening, laid flat | An even opening, no taped twist |
| Pattern alignment | Greek-key border compared side to side and to the QC photos | A border that stays parallel to the hem on both legs |
The numbers we recorded are in our order log for the exact pair we kept. The listing itself carries no flat waist or hip measurements per size, so a buyer cannot scale them up or down from what is published.
The print, the border and the Medusa detail
The design is a black ground carrying an all-over white geometric motif, with a Greek key border sitting above the hem and a visible Medusa head at the lower leg. That is a lot of printed elements stacked on a short leg, and it is where copy-grade shorts usually fail: the border tilts, the head blurs, or the white motif goes chalky against the black.
Under the UV torch the white motif on our pair showed consistent coverage with no patchy glue bloom, and the Medusa sat square to the leg rather than riding the side seam. The border on both legs measured parallel to the hem. We would still check the border in your own warehouse photos, because a tilt of a few millimetres is hard to see in a listing thumbnail and obvious once the short is on a body.
Colourways need their own proof. The black-gold option is not simply the black pair with a different label on the bag — check that version's photographs before you commit, because trim colour changes how the print reads.
Fit, fabric and warm-weather behaviour
The fabric is polyester (polyester fibre) throughout, straight cut, no stretch, listed for a spring 2026 release and sold as summer wear. Polyester with no give is comfortable in heat precisely because it does not cling, but it also means the waist either fits or it does not — there is no elastane to absorb a half-size error. The straight leg kept its shape through wear on our sample, and the no-stretch hand is closer to a swim short than to knit loungewear.
Sizing, by the label alone
Versace's own men's size chart runs small relative to US labelling — IT 48/M maps to a US S — so a Versace M behaves closer to a US S. The listing offers M through 5XL, which is genuinely wider than most options in this style family, but the size run does not solve the fit question on its own. Buyers in replica forums routinely ask for actual garment width per size on Versace shorts, and resale listings in this family often appear with the size tag missing or unshown.
What we could not confirm
Independent feedback on this exact listing is thin. The one piece of reviewer material we could find covers a Versace mid-length swim/short in the same Greek-key and Medusa style family and calls it good quality and pretty stylish — a related-style impression, not a test of this item. We are not treating it as proof of anything about this pair, and neither should you.
How to order it without guessing
- Message the seller and request flat waist, hip, inseam and hem width for the exact size you want.
- Compare those figures to a garment you already own and like, not to your body measurement alone.
- If you want a relaxed US-style fit, size up — the label number will read smaller than you expect.
- Grade the warehouse QC photos yourself: Greek-key border parallel to the hem on both legs, Medusa square to the panel, white motif evenly covered.
- Pick the black or black-gold version only after viewing that version's own photographs.
Our score, and how it was reached
We rate these 4 / 5. Print alignment, the Greek-key border and the Medusa placement held up on the bench against the warehouse QC set, the size run reaches 5XL in two colourways, and the polyester straight cut does what a warm-weather short should. The point comes off for a listing with no flat measurements behind a label that runs small, on a garment with no stretch to forgive a wrong call. On a five-point scale, 5 is excellent, 4 is good, 3 adequate, 2 poor and 1 very poor — this is a good short sold on an incomplete size sheet.

Frequently asked
Should I size up in these Versace black shorts?
Versace's own men's chart runs small — IT 48/M maps to a US S — so a Versace M fits nearer a US S. For a relaxed US-style fit, size up.What measurements should I ask the seller for?
Flat waist, hip, five-point inseam and hem width, for the exact size you want. Sizing talk around Versace shorts always comes back to real garment width, and the listing publishes none.Is the black-gold version the same short?
Same cut and fabric, different trim colour. Treat it as its own purchase: check the black-gold photographs and its QC set before ordering, since trim changes how the printed motif reads.

i ordered two pairs, black only obviously, and the medusa detail is SO clean in person. greek key hem goes all the way around which some reps skip. sizing: im 5'8 175lbs and the XL fit perfect with room. seriously just size up one if ur between. cant beat the price for a summer short.

Taped mine flat on the floor like the reviewer did and the Greek-key pattern matched stitch for stitch across the bottom. Medusa detail is a bit smaller than I expected but that's on me for not reading closely. $6.87 is basically nothing, so even if you gamble on the size it's a low-risk buy.

Shorts are okay. Fabric is thin polyester so don't expect luxe feel, but the Greek-key hem is stitched straight and the Medusa is centered. My issue is same as the review says — no flat measurement chart. I ordered M and L just to be safe and kept the L. Return shipping would've cost more than the shorts.

5XL actually available?? That's rare for these shorts. I grabbed the biggest size for my brother and the waist had real stretch, not that fake elastic that dies after two washes. The five-point cut sits right above the knee, exactly like the QC photos showed. Would order again.

Picked up a pair in 3XL and honestly for $6.87 the Greek-key border lines up clean on both legs. Medusa head is a little soft compared to retail but nobody's zooming in at the gym. Only knock is sizing — I went true to size and they fit fine, but without a flat chart I was sweating it until they arrived.
